High-Torque Sectional & Rolling Shaft Drives

Industrial Door Motors

Direct-drive operators for industrial sectional doors, high-lift doors and industrial rolling doors. Torque-rated from 30 N·m compact drives to 150 N·m heavy drives, with a choice of mechanical or electronic limits, AC induction or brushless DC motors, and shaft-mount or backplate fixing.

What is a industrial door motor?

An industrial door motor is a torque-rated operator mounted on the door’s torsion shaft (direct drive) or on a backplate with chain drive. It raises balanced sectional or rolling doors and is specified by output torque (N·m), shaft diameter, limit type and supply voltage.

How to choose a industrial door motor

  1. Industrial door motors are chosen by torque, not door weight. Torque required depends on door weight, drum diameter and how well the door is spring-balanced — a properly balanced door needs far less torque.
  2. Choose electronic limits (E series) for high-cycle doors and precise stopping; mechanical limits (AC series) are simple and robust for lower duty.
  3. Brushless DC (BLDC series) drives offer variable speed, soft start/stop and lower power consumption for high-cycle logistics doors.
  4. Backplate (BP series) versions are used where the drive must be mounted away from the shaft, driving through a chain.
  5. Always confirm shaft diameter and clearance around the drum before ordering.

Installation

Installation notes

  • The door must be correctly spring-balanced before the motor is fitted; the motor is not designed to lift an unbalanced door.
  • Direct-drive units slide onto the torsion shaft and are keyed; a torque arm prevents the motor body from rotating.
  • Backplate units are bolted to the wall or door frame and connected to the shaft sprocket with a roller chain.
  • Limits are set on the mechanical cam or programmed electronically at the open and closed positions.
  • The emergency hand chain is routed to be reachable from the floor; a chain-engaged interlock cuts power while manual mode is active.

Installation is carried out by authorised Rollvento dealers and installers. Wiring diagrams and sizing support are available from technical support.

FAQ

Industrial Door Motors: common questions

How is an industrial door motor different from a rolling shutter motor?

Industrial door motors mount directly on the door’s torsion shaft and are rated by torque (N·m) for spring-balanced sectional and rolling doors. Rolling shutter motors are side-mounted chain drives rated by curtain weight (kg) for unbalanced steel shutters.

What torque do I need?

Torque depends on door weight, drum diameter and balance. A rule-of-thumb starting point is (unbalanced weight in kg × 9.81 × drum radius in m), then apply a safety margin. Rollvento engineering can calculate this from your door dimensions.

What are electronic limits?

Electronic limits use an encoder to track shaft position, replacing mechanical cam switches. They allow precise, repeatable stopping and easy re-programming, and are recommended for doors that cycle frequently.

Can these motors run on single-phase supply?

Yes, 220 V single-phase versions are available for the compact and mid-torque models; higher-torque drives use 380 V three-phase. The BLDC series runs from low-voltage DC via its control unit.
