Rolling Shutter Motor Installation Guide
Step-by-step fitting of a side-mount rolling shutter motor: brackets, chain alignment, supply, limit setting, manual chain and commissioning checks for installers.

This guide is written for installers fitting Rollvento RV-series side-mount motors (RV-400 to RV-2000). It complements, and does not replace, the instructions supplied with the unit.
Before you start
- Confirm the motor rating against the curtain weight and lifting height — see the rolling shutter motor guide.
- Check the bracket plates are square, rigid and correctly spaced; the shaft must rotate freely in its bearings.
- Confirm the supply: 220 V single-phase for RV-400 to RV-1000, 380 V three-phase for RV-1500 and RV-2000, each through a dedicated isolator and MCB.
- Unpack and check the standard kit: brackets and bearing plate, control board/receiver, two remotes, three-button wall station, lock box with keys, manual chain, hardware and (single-phase) running capacitor.
Step 1 — Mount the motor
- Offer the motor to the bracket plate on the chosen side and mark the fixing holes.
- Bolt the motor to the plate using the supplied hardware; torque evenly.
- Fit the output sprocket to the motor shaft and the driven sprocket to the roller shaft, keyed and locked.
Step 2 — Fit and align the chain
- Align the two sprockets in the same plane with a straight edge.
- Fit the roller chain and connecting link; set free play to about 10–15 mm at mid-span.
- Turn the shaft by hand to check the chain runs true with no tight spots.
Step 3 — Electrical
- Isolate the supply. Wire the motor and control board per the diagram on the unit.
- Single-phase units: connect the running capacitor as marked.
- Three-phase units: check phase sequence; if the motor runs the wrong way, swap two phases.
- Wire the wall station (Up / Stop / Down) and the receiver antenna.
- Bond the motor frame to earth.
Step 4 — Fit the curtain and set limits
- Fix the curtain to the roller with the shutter fully rolled.
- Power up and jog the curtain down a short distance to confirm direction.
- Lower the curtain to the floor; set the lower limit on the limit dial and lock it.
- Raise the curtain to the top position (bottom rail clear of the opening, coil clear of the hood); set the upper limit and lock it.
- Run two or three full cycles and confirm the curtain stops precisely at both ends without over-run.
Step 5 — Manual chain, brake and lock box
- Route the manual chain to hang clear of the curtain and within reach from floor level.
- Test manual operation with the power isolated: the chain should raise and lower the curtain smoothly; the brake must hold the curtain when released.
- Fit the external lock box and confirm the key operates it.
Step 6 — Remotes and accessories
- Program the supplied remotes to the receiver per the board instructions.
- Fit photocells across the opening where pedestrians pass, and a warning lamp for vehicle entrances.
- Label the isolator and hand over the keys and remotes.
Commissioning checklist
- Correct rotation direction
- Upper and lower limits set and locked
- Chain aligned, correct tension
- Brake holds the curtain at mid-travel with power removed
- Manual chain operates and is reachable
- Remotes, wall station and lock box working
- Photocells (where fitted) stop and reverse the curtain
- Isolator labelled, earth continuity checked
Wiring diagrams and datasheets for each RV model are available from technical support.
Frequently asked questions
Which side should the rolling shutter motor be fitted?
Either side, chosen for access to the manual chain and the wall station. Left- or right-hand operation is configured at installation; confirm the rotation direction before setting limits.
How tight should the drive chain be?
Aligned sprockets with about 10–15 mm of free play at the mid-point of the longest run. Too tight loads the bearings; too loose lets the chain ride over the sprocket under load.
Why does the shutter stop before reaching the floor?
The lower limit is set too high, or the limit dial has moved. Re-set the lower limit with the curtain resting on the floor and lock the dial.
